Build an always-on personal agent with Slack and the Agent Client Protocol
I turned by coding agent into an always-on personal assistant with a small Slack bridge over the Agent Client Protocol.
Slack talks to the bridge over Socket Mode. The bridge has a router that either starts a new session or continues one, which means the bridge needs to handle state and sessions. I have it so that each thread maps to an agent session over ACP in a folder like sessions/<channel>-<thread_ts>/ so it can handle things like attachments. There's one worker per thread, and each thread has a queue. The agent process shuts down after some time without a message. Everything is on disk so workers can relaunch after a restart.
The first thing you need to do is to make the bridge self-updating, so you can make improvements to it from Slack. Keep everything in a git repo. The agent clones the bridge, edits the clone, and pushes. The bridge then pulls, rebuilds, and keeps the previous build for rollback if anything fails. I think this is probably one of the easiest ways to feel the AGI; have the agent just build itself, to your liking!
